Sol Republic Amps Bluetooth Earbuds Review
This week I came across Sol Republic Amps Air Totally Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds. They look very cool and have an interesting design.
Checking the reviews for these earphones on Google and Amazon, they have good ratings but not great.
All opinions in this review are my own. I was not compensated nor provided the product for the review.
On Google they have a 3.7 star rating from 257 reviews. And on Amazon 3.3 rating from 187 reviews. Since I have been wanting to try out fully wireless earphones for awhile and I now have these in my possession, I was looking forward to the trial run.
Sol Republic Amps Bluetooth Earbuds features:
» Premium Sound,
» Sweat & Rain Resistant
» 2200mAh Portable Phone Charger
» Music & Siri/Google Assistant Control
» Secure Fit for Workouts
» 3 hours playtime per charge
The case for the earphones is also a charger for them. It recharges your Amps Air more than 15 times for more than 45 hours of playtime.
Not only that, the case can also charge your phone as it has a 2200mAh battery inside and USB port capable of providing the extra charge. It is a multi-functioning case that stores your earphones, charges them, and acts as a phone charger. These type of multiuse gadgets are great for travel.
Earphones come with USB charge cable, travel case, and a manual. The manual is relatively quite large. However, the actual instructions are about 4 pages long. The rest of the book is the instruction in many different languages.
The travel case is about 3.5 inches long and 1.2 inches high. When putting the earphones into the case, they pop right in place. When you take them out of the case, they automatically turn on and connect to each other.
Right out of the box, I had some issues getting both to play at the same time. Even though they connected very quickly and the sound was rich, it was only coming out of one of the two earpieces. After some more charging and synching the earbuds manually, both wear ready and playing music.
When the earbuds are fully in and trying to speak, I sounded to myself as though I was talking into a megaphone. As I have not tried that many earbuds that go this far into the ear canal, I can't tell if this is how it is supposed to be or if it is just these earphones.
They do produce some of the little pops and interruptions when walking and moving the head. Also when I use earbuds that create a seal, I can almost “hear” my footsteps in my head as I walk. The heavier the step, the louder I hear it. Per an audiologist, this is a normal experience. It’s called the “occlusion effect.” Vibration travels up through your body and, because the ear canal seal is shallow, there’s an open airspace between the bud and eardrum in which those vibrations rattle around.
Overall, the sound for these earphones was deep and full. The lack of wire was great as you are not tied down to the device and have limited motion. I really like the design. They are quite cool looking.
Though for me I found it hard to keep them inside my ears, and I will stick to my sports earphones with a small connecting wire for the time being during most activities. Sitting down at desk, these would be nice as you would not get yanked back when getting up or have to deal with any wires.
