Labor Day Holiday Travel(click to tweet)

Labor Day brings summer months to a close. It means the closing of summer recreations such as outdoor pools and parks. Also, a lot of the kids will be going back to school the same week. While that is what the time represents, this is what we celebrate during the holiday weekend
Labor Day honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the country. It is the Monday of the long weekend known as Labor Day Weekend and it is considered the unofficial end of summer.(wikipedia.org)

This time of the year also brings a huge increase in travel. Last year around 16 Million passengers flew over the Labor Day period. Most folks try to get out of town towards the end of the week. And not surprising the traffic spikes around Thursday and Friday before the weekend.
Labor Day is always on a Monday, this year it is on September 3rd. Flying out on the Wednesday before the holiday itself is your best bet. There are far fewer delays, cancellations, or disruptions on this day rather than Thursday. During the weekend itself, there are likely to be fewer flights since most have already reached their destination and there would be smalle crowds en route.

On the way back, it actually best to travel on Monday on Labor Day itself as most travelers tend to give themselves some time to BBQ and relax for an extended weekend. This also means that Tuesday and Wednesday after the holiday are very congested travel days. These days, historically, have the most delays and cancellations.
