Wireless Bluetooth Headphone
I have not used wired headphones with my iPhone for almost a year now. Not since I got the Plantronics Headphones. Not only do I not need to worry about plugging in my headphones, but there are no wires to deal with. When I walk around, go to work, on a subway, there is no wire to tangle or get caught on bags or shirts or arms. I have seen quite a few incidents when someone tries to exit the subway car quickly and ends up hooking their headphone wires on another passenger and gets yanked back. It's funny and quite uncomfortable for the one with the wired headphones. Once you upgrade to a new phone, might as well upgrade to wireless headphones.

If you are not willing to part with wired headphones, or just recently got yourself a pricey set, you can use a Bluetooth receiver. You plug you wired earphones into the Bluetooth receiver and it connects to your phone via Bluetooth
