National Flashlight Day is on the same day as Winter Solstice, which this year is on December 22nd. It is the shortest day of the year. And that would make sense why you would need a flashlight, since you going to be in the dark a lot sooner and longer than any other day.
This day even has its own hashtag - #NationalFlashlightDay
