Travel Gadget Of The Month - USB Stick

Top Travel Gadget This Month - USB Stick

With advances in technology, the storage options are becoming more robust and also have a lot more capacity. Previously, travelers could only store a few photos on the memory cards they were taking with them. And now we can store thousands of images and also movies and shows on a very compact device.
A lot of these memories are also being stored virtually in such places as clouds, however, to upload your data or to download it, you would need an internet connection and hopefully a secure one. This can be harder to come by when you are traveling.

A USB stick is useful for travelers as it’s the easiest way to store data from your computer and tablet and take it along. It also allows to easily share video files or lots of photos. USB memory has exponentially grown in the last few years. There are now memory sticks available with 128 GB of space and more, which can store thousands of photos and videos. While there are sticks with even larger capacity that goes into terabytes, I would not suggest getting those for the trip. One, they are very expensive and with their small size can be easily misplaced and you don't want to keep track of another expensive gadget. Two, it is also not a good idea to keep all of your eggs, or photos and videos, in one basket (USB stick). Splitting up some of your destinations between a couple storage devices is the best option to keep your valuable memories with you. For most trips, a couple of 64GB memory sticks, such as those below, should be good.

» SanDisk Extreme Go USB 3.1 64GB Flash Drive
» PNY Turbo 64GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive
» Kingston Digital 64GB Data Traveler 3.0 USB Flash Drive
» Transcend 64GB JetFlash 710 USB 3.0 Flash Drive

With many tablets having only 16GB of space or less, and even small laptops often coming with just 128GB, it’s hard to load them up with enough movies, music, and other entertainment to get you through an entire vacation. And that is where supplemental storage via a USB stick comes in handy.

A USB flash drive is also useful for to get things like boarding passes printed out without logging into email on public computers in hostels and internet cafes.

A larger capacity stick, such as the Corsair Flash Survivor with 256GB capacity gives you enough space during the trip back up photos as well as store enough music and movies to keep you entertained. That means you won’t need to carry a separate portable hard drive for backups, which often break when carried around and take up a lot of space.

These types of flash drives are also shockproof, waterproof, and dustproof USB sticks. All these features come in very handy while traveling. There are many bumps and tumbles when dragging your travel bags and luggage through the airport, in a car, or ship. A travel gadget that can make it through all of those is essential. And since a lot of the travel involves bodies of water, waterproof device would give you more peace of mind.

Flash drives have also learned to play well with mobile devices. SanDisk iXpand 64GB OTG Flash DriveWith Lightning Connector, for instance, not only can back up data from your PC or Mac but can also plug into your iPhone via the lightning connector where you can view those files. And it works in the opposite direction. You can transfer content from the phone onto your computer.

Use USB Flash Drive to Lock/Unlock Your PC
To do this, you would need an additional program, called Predator. Though once you have it download and set up on your USB, you will be able to lock your computer just by removing the flash drive. Once you take it out, all your open windows are minimized and the computer logs out. When you plug it in, it will restore and log you in automatically. The great benefit here is that you do not need to enter your password each time in a public place. This way your laptop and your password stay secure.
