White is the color of life

This one is not about a gadget, its a thought that came across last weekend:

White is the color of life

This makes a lot of sense. Some might have known about this before, though for me today was the big discovery. We were white colors on warmer days. Those are also the days when a lot of things in nature bloom or come alive.

White it the color of snow. When it covers the ground in areas where there is usually no snow at other times, it brightens up the atmosphere around it. In the winter time when skies look gloomy with clouds, snowfall clears it up creating a better view and also a better mood. (unless of course you live in a large city where the snow turns dark and dirty with traffic, though still looks great in the first few minutes)

White color represents cleanliness. And also purity. It is the color worn during great occasion quite a few of them that are life changing.

In ancient Egypt, the color white (hedj and shesep) suggested omnipotence and purity. Due to its lack of color white was also the color of simple and sacred things. The name of the holy city of Memphis meant "White Walls." White sandals were worn at holy ceremonies. White was also the heraldic color of Upper Egypt. The "Nefer", the crown of Upper Egypt was white, even though originally it was made of green reeds.

In the movie Bruce Almighty, the producers chose white color to represent the higher power in all white. There is also the White House. The residence for the most powerful president in the world. And though I mentioned this post is not particularly about a gadget, interesting enough products made by Apple for the most part have started in color white. They look clean new and sparkling. Wonder why they decided to go with that color in particular. If anyone has other ideas or knows more of the answers to this please comment.

Take a comfortable seat

I have been meaning to get one of these for myself for quite awhile now. The rare time I usually remember about these seats is when I am in need of one or really wished I had one at that moment.
There was one time that I was in a sports store and actually remembered to look for one of these fold-able legless chairs. But the store did not have these type of chairs that come with straps to hold it in place and a back. All they had were some cushions. While those are comfortable compared to just a bench or ground they do no provide the support for the back. When sitting on this cushions you are more likely to be hunched over and straining your back.
The chairs such as the outdoor portable chair, on the other hand, provide both cushion and support. I first came across one of these when I saw an elderly couple sitting on the ground, as most of the people were, during an outdoor concert. And they were comfortably lounging back as though they were sitting in the large chairs, but I did not see one. Once one of them got up, I saw that they were on these small legless chairs. While the rest of us were sitting cross legged or in similar positions on our blankets. I saw the true value for these seats as we went to more of such concerts and similar event as well a few baseball games, where I wished I had the portable chair underneath instead of just the bleachers. So as the spring time nears and the stores are more likely to have the chairs in stock... Wait a second, this is year 2010 I can order one online. I am off to search for a good deal for one on amazon.

If you are thinking of getting one as well, here is a link to the listing on amazon.com: Portable chairs by Crazy Creek

When its time for some R & R while traveling

Though these are not electronics, the following make travel a lot more comfortable:

Lug Life Nap Sac Blanket & Pillow- just looking at the picture, can feel how plush it is and would like to take a nap on it asap. Or maybe its just me and it is late afternoon here. The packaging come with a fleece blanket and a pillow. The pillow is packed flat and easy rolls up with the blanket. When needed, just blow it up and place it inside the cover. This makes it very convenient for traveling as it does not take up much space when deflated and packed up. It saves you money when flying since you do not have to pay fees for blankets and pillows on some of the flights.

TravelRest - The Ultimate Inflatable Travel Pillow- this pillow also takes up minimal space in your luggage when deflated. Though it looks a little strange in the picture, it aslo looks like it would be quite comfotable on long flight or drive. I tried the U-shaped pillow for my neck on my last flight as I cannot fall asleep on a plane and feel uncomfortable with my neck becoming more sore through the flight. While it did help a bit, with my head resting in more natural position and gave support, it did not feel like a pillow. It felt more like a support. According to the description for this travel pillow it supports your whole upper body and it won't slip away. It attaches to most high back seats or headrests and can be used on either left or right side.
If anyone has used one of these, please let me and other readers know about it. Would be interested in looking more into this comfy contraption.

Travel alarm clocks

When traveling for leaisure it is great to wake up whenever. Though even on relaxing trips out of town sometimes you need to wake up earlier and/or on time. On business trips, it goes without saying, you have to be on time for the meetings and get togethers, and cannot alway rely on a wake-up call. And that is why this post is about a nice to have travel gadget, a travel alarm.
Most hotel rooms have a variation of a clock/radio alarm in the room. In most of my travels that is what I utilize to set my wake up time. I have a basic one at home that I learned to manipulate quickly. I found that most of the clock radios that are in hotels have similar controls. However, they take time to set up and sometimes to figure out, especially the newer types. And they also might not work that well or have parts missing. Plus you have to learn anew and set it up every time you travel.
On the other hand, when you have the personal travel alarmwith you, you would set it once with a couple different wake up times and you are good to go. They are vary scalable in terms of the learning curve to find out how to set them up once and then easily do the same on the next trip.
These alarms are also very portable as most of them are light weight and have small dimensions. The pricier once, like the Seiko Advanced Technology Bedside Alarmweigh only 1.9 ounces. Today's travel alarms can have various cool and usefull features like multiple wake-up times, digital photo frame, calming nature sounds and MP3 player. Digital versions can automatically set the time wherever you may be. And some also come with a thermometer and a calendar.
