Essential Travel Gadget of the Week - Portable External Power Bank
Essential Travel Gadget of the Week
External Power Pack
As the commercial above from Samsung depicts, smartphones run out of juice quickly and usually at times when you really need to call or look up something.
While the ad tries to show that if you have an iPhone you have to plug into a wall outlet, all phones need to charge. Samsung Galaxy S5 just comes with an extra replaceable battery, which also has to be charged.
All phones can use a Portable External Power Bank. Especially the folks in this video that are traveling.
These portable travel chargers are light, pack quite a bit power, and can charge multiple devices including multiple types of smartphones.
Jackery Giant+ Premium Portable 12000mAh Battery Pac can power up Apple iPhone 5S, 5C, 5, 4S, iPad, Air, Mini, Samsung Galaxy S4, S3, Note, Nexus, LG, and HTC. It has enough juice to power up a couple of devices at the same time. Charge it up before you head out, and you would not be stuck looking for an outlet or having to replace a battery. Just plug it in and keep using your smartphone.

Mapping Travel: Smartphone Alternative
Taking smartphone on long or oversea trips...
I will be honest, I am still quite apprehensive about taking my phone everywhere I go. It's a pricey gadget. Moreover, besides helpful navigation it has a lot of other stuff stored on it. I would not want to be separated from it. Ever. (Keep Your Gadgets Safe While Traveling)
So while it is a bit more old school, I still prefer to grab a paper map of the location we are in once we arrived there. It usually has good details as well as marking of major squares and centers and local restaurants and even coupons.
Here is a series of shots, and what has become a tradition, of me reading the map and leading us on our next adventure:

Small But Mighty Travel Gadgets
Small But Mighty Travel Gadgets
Packing space is always at a premium. These smaller size travel gadgets not only improve your travel experience and serve essential functions, but also can let optimize the space in your travel pack:
Smartphone Charging Wallet
http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20140212/smartphone-charging-wallet-juice-required/
You always have your wallet with you, its an essential accessory. And now you will also have addition charge for you phone as well. The Smart charging wallet has a built-in connector that plugs into your phone and provide up to two hours of additional talk time without having to have access to a power outlet. The wallet contains a 680 mAh rechargeable battery that has been specially integrated into one panel, where it is capable of easily connecting to your gadget.
Fuel is the "world’s smallest phone charger"
http://devotecindustries.com/fuel
It has a shape and look of a canister of gas, which is known to most car drivers as the go to emergency auto accessory. And that is likely for a good reason as this little newest gadget can give a boost to your smartphone while you are away from the home. Its 220 mAh battery is designed to give you an extra 20-30 minutes of talk time, which is good to order a pizza or update your status so you don't feel as stranded.
ChargeCard for iPhone 4/4s
This device has a Credit Card Sized Charging Cable built in. It is similar idea to charging wallet, though it does not hold the charge itself. The card acts as a connector between your gadget and a charger. The center plug comes out and plugs into a USB port, the end of the card is then plugged into your phone. It can be useful on a trip to replace a charge cord. The card can go into your wallet, pants pocket, or bag.
Ring May Be the Next Hot Wearable Device
http://www.technobuffalo.com/2014/03/04/ring-may-be-the-next-hot-wearable-device/
One of the newest tech gadgets on the horizon, this ring uses NFC (Near Field Communications) technology to use gestures to interact with your smart watch, control the lights, issue commands to your smartphone and more. Per Kickstarte page for it, the ring can be used to unlock doors, mobile phones and to transfer information and link people. It is a great concept that brings the idea of virtual interaction, similar to what was has been depicted in sci-fi movies to date, to reality. It supports a range of platforms including iOS, Android and Windows Phone
Satechi Compact USB Surge Protector
http://amzn.to/OtziOn
This device creates an additional plug-in for your gadgets when traveling so that you can charge your laptop and your phone or tablet with USB wire at the same time. Moreover, it would also protect your computer from any power surges. All that and it is only 7 oz. Great to throw in a bag or stick into the Grid-It.

Travel Video of the Week - Smartwatches: A Revolution on Your Wrist?
Smartwatches: A Revolution on Your Wrist?
A new watch is now hitting the market what seems like every month. Quite a few of the consumer electronics manufacturers are jumping on board to design their own coolest and latest watch.
While these are being gobbled up (Thanksgiving is almost here) by those in tech industry, they are yet to capture the acceptance of mainstream. These watches are not robust enough currently to supplement smartphones and too advance and too expensive for most casual watch wearer.
They are also not compatible with multiple products. As mentioned in the video, smartwatches need to encompass more in their features to attract more attention. They need to include fitness and sleep tracking and other capabilities that are currently offered in standalone products. This way they can replace multiple wrist things or enhance the watch and smartphone at the same time.
