National Unplug Day and Travel

When we think of gadgets, we usually think of electronic devices that we use frequently at home and traveling. There are other travel gadgets that don't require to be plugged in or charged. And with the National Day of Unplugging this Friday, we look at some of these that you can take along with you for when you go for a long walk or go on a coffee date or go on a hike

Pocket multi-tool
These portable tools, such as the Leatherman Wingman Multitool, have many different things in them that come in handy while out. They have in them, for example, knives, pliers, screwdrivers, wire cutters, a wire stripper, scissors, a package opener, bottle and can openers, a file, and a ruler. That is a lot of gadgets without any wires.

French Coffee Press
This coffee maker works great traveling and at home. All you need is ground coffee and hot water. There are no plugs to connect and no buttons to press. And the coffee comes out with great aromas. A lot of coffee aficionados actually swear by this device when making their cup.

Travel wallet
No matter where you go, if you are outside your home, you would need some where to place your cash and cards. While these come with more tech then ever before, such as RFID blocking, they do not need anything else.

Water bottle
On a stroll or on a hike, keeping hydrated is very important. Using bottles, such as Contigo Water Bottle, keeps the water near by and also helps keep the environment cleaner by not throwing away one-time use bottles

Comfortable and convenient travel bag
Whevever we go out the door, we have our favorite Lowepro Passport Sling bag with us. We have used it a lot. It is great for throwing things in there that you need for a day. They are easily accessible with mutliple pockets and full zipper. The bag is also easy to carry as it can be swung over the shoulder or hang on the side.

Board and card games
Not all games that we play to keep entertained need to be electronic. There are a lot of great games that exist and new ones that came out with no wires or buttons. Travel check or checkers and cards gamest, such as our favorite UNO, are great to play on the go.
And I just found out there is now a Monopoly travel card game that looks like fun family game to play.

Paper map
By using a paper map, you may discover routes that you might have not been aware of before and those that are actually better than what the GPS shows. As was describe in our post about our adventures with using GPS in remove areas, you cannot always rely on technology. So taking time to navigate with a map could be fun and also a learning opprtunity.
